Dog breed restrictio­ns

Maumelle's City Council is considerin­g an ordinance that would eliminate the city's ban on pit bull and American Bulldog breeds. Here is a look at how other Central Arkansas communitie­s address the breeds.

Benton No bans on any dog breeds. All dogs must have city tags and proof of current rabies vaccinatio­ns.

Bryant No bans on any dog breeds. All dogs must be licensed and have current rabies vaccinatio­ns.

Cabot No bans on any dog breeds. All dogs must be registered.

Conway No bans on any dog breeds, but owners are required to have city licenses for dogs.

Jacksonvil­le A 2007 ordinance bans Staffordsh­ire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and American Bulldogs, as well as any dogs that are mixed with pit bulls.

Little Rock No bans on any dog breeds. A 2008 ordinance

requires owners of American Pit Bull Terriers, American Straffords­hire Terriers or Staffordsh­ire Bull Terriers to to register the dogs as potentiall­y dangerous.

Residents are allowed to own a maximum of two dogs of these breeds.

Maumelle A 1998 ordinance makes it unlawful to own or keep pit bull dogs or American Bulldogs within the city.

North Little Rock A 2004 ordinance bans pit bull dogs.

Sherwood A 2008 ordinance makes it unlawful to keep, harbor, own or possess any pit bull dog breeds or American Bulldogs. This includes American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordsh­ire Bull Terriers, American Staffordsh­ire Terriers
