ULLAPOOL , SCOTLAND — Patricia Palmer (Patterson) Jones,
83, died peacefully on December 22, 2020, in the Mo Drachaidh Care Home, with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Little Rock, to D. Palmer and Sarah Esther (Allbright) Patterson. Pat, a 1955 graduate of Central High School, earned her B.A. from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville, Class if 1959.
Pat was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Willis Arthur “Bill” Jones, born and raised in El Dorado. Pat and Bill met in college. The two of them earned degrees from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary: Pat in Christian Education; Bill as a B.Divinity. They were married in Alloa, Scotland in 1963, as Bill earned his M.Div. at New College, Edinburgh Seminary.
They served churches in the USA: Portland, Texas, Holland, Mich., where Bill earned his D.Div from Hope Seminary; Rheinbeck, Hastings, and Kingston in New York; Wycoff, N.J.. Parishes in Scotland included: Currie Kirk, Edinburgh; Crown Church, Inverness; Dunfermline; Alloa; Kirkhill, Culbokie. and Cromartie.They also served for one year in the Sultanate of Oman, as Bill oversaw the 26 Protestant churches allowed to worship in that country. Pat and Bill were a team in all their pastorates, with both preaching, teaching and serving the needs in their congregations and communities.
Survivors include four daughters, Rev. Kirsty Depree (Tim), Hawthorne, N.J.; Wendy Coughlin (Mike), Midland Park, N.J.; Amy Rebecca Jones (Sam), Cody, Wyo.. Rev. Heidi Hercus (Tony), Ullapool, Scotland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are a sister, Sarah Jane Hopkins (Howard), of Little Rock, a brother, David Palmer Patterson (Sharon) of Kirkland, Wash., and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends around the world, including Age Grutle, their Norwegian exchange student who became a valued family member.
