CONWAY — Bingham Dozier

-

Bennett, 88, passed away on February 9th at his residence in Conway. He was a former resident of Diamond City.

Born in Lee County on July 3, 1932, to W.H. (Henry) and Bonnie (Stiles) Bennett, Bing was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He was the third of five children, and has been welcomed home by all of them, along with many other friends and extended family. He arrived with many stories to tell!

A former baseball and basketball player at Mississippi State University, Bing went on to play professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers farm system, finding his greatest success with the Boeing Bombers in Wichita, Kan.

Bing loved the outdoors. He loved all types of hunting, and was the ultimate planner of exciting trips to do what he loved. He particularly enjoyed helping those new to the sport – especially children. He was an avid fisherman best known for his “hogging catfish” skills. Up until his last days, he was dreaming of crappie fishing trips to Bull Shoals Lake.

He lived for a period in Bismarck, where he became quite skilled at growing muscadines, claiming that he grew the very best in Arkansas.

Known as a charismatic “people person,” Bing made friends easily and could always be counted on to be there when needed. He was a great encourager to his friends and family. If you knew Bing, at some point you were likely delivered breakfast from McDonalds, a rotisserie chicken from Walmart, a copy of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, a pack of Miller Genuine Draft or some Omaha steaks. He loved making people feel special.

Bing is survived by five children, Mike Bennett (Lori) of Eureka Springs, Chris Bennett (Marie) of Harrison, Kristi Murray (Rob) of Humble, Texas, Shelby Bennett of Santa Fe, N.M., and Kayla Huselton (Jason) of Conway. Bing leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved him dearly and were blessed to have known him.

At his request, no formal service will be held. As we say goodbye, honor Bing by telling stories of the life he loved living.
