DUMAS — James Edward Boney
departed this life on February 13, 2021, after living a life full of many good times and plenty of adventures. James was born in Lake Village, Arkansas, on April 6, 1952, to the late James Louis and Bessie Mae Bowers Boney. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patty Sue Boney; and a nephew, Joe Boney.
James was a veteran of the United States Army where he served many roles with his favorite being a cook for three years. He was a past member of the American Legion Post #84 Walter Hall in Dumas for several years. James was self employed as a surveyor in many parts of Eastern Arkansas as well as areas in Texas and Mississippi.
He enjoyed the many friendships he made with his customers. In the off season, he enjoyed traveling all over the southern United States hauling farm equipment, always making new friends along the way. James was larger than life and lived life his way. While he may have only lived 68 years, he lived them to the fullest. He had a way with words and enough unique phrases to fill a book.
James leaves behind many happy memories and great stories. He loved telling stories to anyone who would lis
ten. James enjoyed sharing the cooking skills he learned in the Army with anyone who walked through his door. He was known by many nicknames to his enormous circle of friends and he possessed a special talent of giving nicknames to those he knew and loved. James was known to never stay in one place too long but made his presence known everywhere he went. He always had a phone to his ear keeping in touch and checking on friends and family whether on the go or at home. He was thoughtful and caring, always loving to give to others. He enjoyed delivering fresh summer vegetables and sweet corn to people in areas far and wide. James had a very special bond with son, Jamey. He loved sharing his love for hunting, fishing, all things agriculture and most importantly horse racing with him. James loved spending weekends in Hot Springs with family and friends during racing season, always wearing that black felt cowboy hat he was known for.
James is survived by son, Jamey (Shanna) of Marion, Ark.; and grandchildren, Jase and Avery, whom he adored. James loved his “little lady friend”, Pam Coleman, who shared many amazing adventures with him for 22 years. Other surviving family members include two brothers, Bubba Boney (Amelia) from Dumas and Bobby Boney (Linda) from Eudora; three sisters, Linda Harvey of Warren, Mary Hawthorne (Vernon) of Dumas and Betty Trites (Maurice) from Gillett; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 20, from 2-4 p.m., at Walnut Lake Country Club in Pickens, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, AR. Please sign online guestbook: www.griffinfh.com.
