-

69, passed away on Jan. 28, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. The youngest of three children of Teresa and Robert P. Seyfer, Jr., she attended Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock, Ark., and married the love of her life, John England Tebbetts, Jr., in 1971. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology at California State University, Northridge, and went on to be one of the first women of her generation to attend medical school, earning her M.D. from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. Maria then carried out a surgical internship and two residencies in anesthesiology, as well as a fellowship in anesthesiology. She worked as an anesthesiologist for many years at Harris Methodist Fort Worth. She and her husband John were deeply devoted to one another, and enjoyed running marathons, 5Ks and 10Ks, often winning trophies. They both also enjoyed piloting planes, and taking care of their cats. Maria had a generous heart and was a kind and encouraging aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was devastated by John’s sudden passing in 1996. Maria continued to work as an anesthesiologist, often on contract, traveling to many different parts of the country. She cared for her older sister Sandra Pitts up until her death in November 2019, and moved from Little Rock to San Antonio in 2020 to be closer to her brother, Alan Seyfer, who died in October of that year. She will be remembered as an excellent physician, faithful Catholic, and good-hearted person who loved her family members fiercely. She is survived by her nieces, Tara (Seyfer) Plymouth of Philadelphia, Penn., and Jessie Seyfer Chorney, of Alameda, Calif. Services are being planned.
