Jail control panel plan on JPs’ plate

The Pulaski County Quorum Court is scheduled to discuss a proposed ordinance Tuesday that would pay for a new control panel at the Pulaski County jail.

The control panel to operate the lockup’s cameras and close or open doors has been only partially functioning for some time.

The added funding, $3.7 million, would consist of carryover money from 2020. Of that, $2.4 million would go toward the new control panel, which if approved should be in place in about a year, according to Comptroller Mike Hutchens.

The proposed ordinance, supported unanimously during an Agenda Committee meeting Feb. 9, follows a January ordinance that funded new locks for the jail, which will function in tandem with the control panel.

Justices of the peace are also to discuss several grant funding ordinances and a resolution for adopting a hazard mitigation plan in Pulaski County.

Trash collection to get back on track

Pulaski County offices were closed and garbage routes did not run Friday making it the fourth day without such services, according to a Pulaski County Facebook post.

The post said trash collection missed last week because of the wintry weather will be made up for this week.

Sherwood also closed its city offices and canceled trash pickup last week. Sherwood will resume its garbage collection Monday and recycling March 1, according to another post.

Maumelle opened its city offices Friday, according to a Facebook post.

The city has had problems with garbage collection because of landfill closure and truck usability, Mayor Caleb Morris said.

Jacksonville offices remained closed Friday but are expected to be open Monday.
