JERRY ALLEN SMITH,
73, of Jacksonville passed away on February 20, 2021. He was born July 16, 1947, to the late Marshall Lewis and Jane Elizabeth Smith in Little Rock, Ark.
Jerry will be lovingly missed for his outstanding sense of humor and his “Big Boss” personality. He owned and operated S&J Construction Co. Inc. for 35 years in Jacksonville. Jerry was an Eagle Scout and proud member of the Order of the Arrow and the Arkansas Razorback Roadhogs. He also spent five years in the Air National Guard. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1965 and earned scholarships for excelling in baseball and playing the trumpet. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially having dinner during the holidays at Nanny and Stan’s house, as well as golfing and boating. Jerry loved hunting elk and pheasants in South Dakota and duck hunting with his childhood best friend, Ronnie Shrader.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Smith; children, Amy (Joey) Sullivan, Cynthia Meharg, and Jerry (Cheyenne) Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Anna Sullivan, Joey Sullivan Jr., Jared Meharg, Cody Meharg, Jerry Smith III, and Jessica Smith; as well as his sisters, Marsha (Dennis) Ward and Pam (Doug) Morris.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2021, at First Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Jerry will be interred after the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
