CHARLES RAY DIXON
of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away February 23, 2021 at the age of 80.
Charles grew up as one of 11 children born to a share-cropper and his wife. With only a sixth grade education, he went on to raise a family and earn a G.E.D. He joined the NLRFD in 1969 and retired in 2006 as Battalion Chief. He led by example and in turn he was followed and adored by his men. He was loved beyond measure by his wife, Geneva and by almost everyone whose life he touched. Charles served our country in the Army Reserves. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking. He will be sorely missed.
Charles was born in North Little Rock to Itha Sory and Ralph H. Dixon. His survivors include his loving wife, Geneva Moffett Dixon; children, Matthew Dixon and Angela (Mark) Hall; grandchildren, Christopher Hall, Jason (Krystle) Hall and Derek (Callie) Miller; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Madison Hall, and Ireland and Daxx Miller. He is also survived by his brothers, Leon, R.H., and Carl Dixon; sisters, Alene (Jack) Estell, Margie Kelley, Brenda Akel, and Elizabeth (Larry) Brown; sistersin-law Annie Dixon, Judy (Bill) McClain; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Susie) Moffett; a host of nephews and nieces, and special family friends, Louann Gardner and Shelby Holt.
Charles was proceeded in death by his brothers, Harllen, Arvel, and Michael Dixon; sisters-in-law, Loretta, Betty, and Shirley Dixon; brothers-in-law, John Akel and Ed Kelley; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Dixon.
Funeral services will be conducted at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 5519 Atwood in Little Rock at noon, Monday, March 1st. Private interment for family will be at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at New Hope Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
