Reverend LEONARD HAWKINS,

59, of Maumelle, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Affectiona­tely known as “Butchie,” he was born in Forrest City, Ark., on November 23, 1961, to the late, Larvan and Dorothy Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Larvan Hawkins, Jr., Daron Hawkins, and Bernard Hawkins.

Rev. Hawkins accepted his call to the ministry at a young age and was proudly blessed for eight years to pastor his home church of Union Hill Baptist Church in Palestine. His ministeria­l career also took him to the position of Senior Pastor at Zion Wheel Baptist Church, St. John Missionary Baptist Church and New Life Christian Fellowship, all in Little Rock. A 1980 Palestine High School graduate, he earned an associate’s degree from Arkansas State University, a bachelor’s degree in business administra­tion from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Doctorate of Divinity from Arkansas Baptist College. With his trademark hearty voice, Rev. Hawkins was known for his love for the ministry, his family, friends and sports.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Jacqueline Medley Hawkins; his son, Gavin (Camille) Hawkins of Little Rock; two daughters, Mariah Hawkins of Little Rock and Robyn McCarley of Maumelle; one granddaugh­ter, Kharyss Garrett of Little Rock; two sisters, Patricia (Neartis) Clark of Forrest City and Dorothea Hawkins of Jonesboro; two brothers, Stanley (Tonya) Hawkins of Little Rock and Kenneth Richardson of Forrest City; along with a special granddaugh­ter, Royalty Ursery, and a host of other relatives and friends.
