Forces on the fringes
I am in deep mourning for my country, which is being torn asunder by forces on the right and on the left. Delusional people on the right continue threatening violence on behalf of the liar-in-chief. In 43 states, including Arkansas, they are attempting to restrict voting in order to hold on to their positions. In Arkansas, they have proposed/passed a bill that will ensure we return to the days of back-alley and coat-hanger abortions, killing not only babies, but mothers; a bill that will probably result in more, not fewer gun deaths; and a bill that will outlaw the teaching in public schools of anything controversial, thus making the teaching of history impossible, since history is always controversial.
The left also wants to meddle with history education by forcing the instruction of “The 1619 Project,” which claims that the United States was only founded to assure the continuation of slavery. (Miles Standish, Roger Williams and Lord Baltimore, all proponents of religious freedom, would be astounded by such a claim.) “Cancel culture” has gone too far by wanting to remove from history not only the names of 100 percent proponents of slavery/segregation, but also the names of people like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, who built or supported the foundation of freedom on which our republic is based. Of course they had flaws; everyone does—except for the self-righteous members of the radical left.
I submit that the majority of the people in the United States don’t belong to either radical wing, but to the willing-to-compromise-and-cooperate center. It’s time we took the country back. By the way, I hope Jim Hendren runs for governor of Arkansas so that there is a moderate for me to vote for.
