A memorial service for BARBARA KAY (THORNBERRY) DUNCAN

was held Saturday, March 27, at Village Creek Baptist Church, Mabelvale, with Pastor Nathan Winiecki officiatin­g.

Barbara Duncan, 75, transition­ed to her Heavenly home on February 17, 2021. Barbara was born February 11, 1946, in Cherokee, Okla., to the late Wyveta (Rader) Calhoun. Barbara married Adren Duncan, the love of her life, December 15, 1978, in Little Rock where they made their home. She and Adren loved to travel and attend concerts.

Barbara began her education in Alva Schools, then graduated from High School at Muskogee School for the Blind in 1963. Barbara continued her journey earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Speech in 1969 from Northweste­rn Oklahoma State University, and Master’s in Social Work from the University of Arkansas. She retired on January 8, 2016, from a 37-year career with the Arkansas Governor’s office.

Barbara was a member of the Village Creek Baptist Church in Little Rock, served on the Arkansas Council of the Blind, and was a member of the Cardinal Key National Honor Sorority.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Adren, of Little Rock; cousins, Don and Audrey Rader of Mustang and Sherry and Melvin Evans of Alva; a special friend, Rita Miller of Alva; and other relatives and friends.

Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to the care of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home. Interment was held earlier in the Fairview Cemetery north of Alva, Okla., where she was buried next to her mother in Christ’s love: Eternal Life. Barbara Kay and Adren Duncan.
