TOMMIE JEANNE BOWMAN,

-

76, of Little Rock, passed from this life to a better one on March 26, 2021. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 15, 1944, while her father served there in the Army Air Corp. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas (Tommy) Bowman and Nancy Lois Grinder Bowman. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Bowman Baxter and husband Lynn, her brothers, Joel Bowman and Clay Bowman, eight nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was a Baptist and a graduate of Fuller High School.

Tommie loved deeply, laughed openly, and gave freely. She enjoyed being with family and particularly enjoyed the annual camping trips to the Buffalo River. Probably her greatest enjoyment was listening to stories about the escapades of her great-nieces and nephews. She thought they were all amazing! Tommie loved working in the women’s group at her church and spent hours creating and arranging programs for the ladies’ auxiliary. She appeared in two full length plays performed by this group. Tommie would never fail to take a stand when she saw an injustice. Once at a family fun park, she observed a young lifeguard fired unfairly and immediately went to bat for him, when no one else would. His job was restored on the spot. At a local restaurant, she observed a server collecting a tip that did not belong to her and reported it to the manager. Later it was learned this had gone on for some time and had not been reported.

Tommie spent twenty-six years with the National Old Line Insurance Company and attained the title of Assistant Vice President and Department Manager. The remainder of her career was spent in payroll at four other companies. She retired from the City of Little Rock. Tommie was meticulous in her work and was careful to make sure that Payroll checks and the records connected to them were accurate and on time. Many times, she worked through the night and braved harsh weather conditions so employees could receive their checks on time.

Tommie’s wishes were to be cremated. She did not want a formal funeral service but said if the family wanted to get together and share stories of old times and fun adventures, that would be okay with her. That is exactly what we will do. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, (501) 758-1170.
