SUN BELT UALR 2, LOUISIANA-MONROE 0

The University of Arkansas-Little Rock (16-14, 7-3 Sun Belt Conference) got both of its runs Saturday on home runs as the Trojans extended their conference winning streak to four games by beating Louisiana-Monroe (11-18, 3-10) at Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.

Both home runs went to left field and came with two outs in their respective innings. Tyler Williams hit a solo shot in the first inning on an 0-1 pitch, and Nathan Lyons added a home run on a 2-1 pitch in the fifth inning.

John Michael Russ and Noah Dickerson both went 2 for 4 to lead the Trojans, who finished with 8 hits as a team and stranded 7 baserunner­s. UALR held Louisiana-Monroe to four hits, all coming off starter Hayden Arnold (5-3), who earned the victory after striking out 10 with 1 walk in 7 innings. Right-hander Aaron Barkley got his fifth save after pitching two hitless innings with two strikeouts.

TEXAS-ARLINGTON 9, ARKANSAS STATE 2

Arkansas State University (9-19, 4-7) allowed six unanswered runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings Saturday to lose to Texas-Arlington at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

The Mavericks (16-18, 7-4) got an RBI single in the top of the second inning, but the Red Wolves answered in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Duncan scored on a throwing error by third baseman Boone Montgomery. Texas-Arlington took a 3-1 lead in the third on an RBI double from Dylan Paul and an RBI single from Andrew Miller.

Ben Klutts cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run to left-center field, but that was as close as ASU would get.

Texas-Arlington got a solo home run from Josh Minjarez and scored a run on a fielding error by ASU left fielder Jaylon Deshazier in the sixth. Minjarez hit a two-run home run in the seventh, and the Mavericks got a pair of RBI singles in the eighth.

Drew Tipton was the only player with two hits for the Red Wolves, who were held to six hits as a team. Right-hander Will Nash (1-4) took the loss after allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks over 4 innings.

SOUTHLAND

TEXAS A&M-CC 2, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 1

The University of Central Arkansas (10-18, 6-12 Southland Conference) was held to four hits and committed two errors Saturday in a loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-22, 7-10) in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a Mike Williams RBI single and a fielding error by UCA pitcher Mark Moyer. The Bears’ lone run came in the seventh inning when Beau Orlando — who singled to start the inning — scored on Benny Ayala’s sacrifice fly.

UCA’s other three hits came from Kolby Johnson, Taylor Daniell and Connor Flagg. Moyer took the loss for the Bears after allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits with no walks and 9 strikeouts in 8 innings.

The Bears and Islanders will continue their series with a doublehead­er today starting at 11 a.m.
