FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Razorbacks continue to be No. 1 in the USA Today baseball coaches poll released Monday because they keep beating other ranked teams.

The University of Arkansas (32-7, 13-5 SEC) improved to 12-3 against teams in the poll by taking two of three at South Carolina last weekend.

The Gamecocks (25-12, 11-7) dropped from No. 11 to No. 15, while the Razorbacks stayed No. 1 for the third consecutive week.

South Carolina had won four consecutive SEC series before losing to Arkansas.

The Razorbacks opened the season by sweeping No. 11 Texas Tech, No. 3 Texas and No. 6 TCU at the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas. Arkansas then took two of three games at No. 18 Louisiana Tech.

In SEC play the Razorbacks have gone 3-0 at No. 5 Mississippi State and 2-1 at No. 14 Ole Miss, in addition to winning the South Carolina series.

The Gamecocks were 16-2 at home before going 1-2 against Arkansas.

Three ranked SEC teams remain on the Razorbacks’ schedule: No. 23 Georgia (26-13, 9-9), No. 4 Tennessee (32-9, 12-6) and No. 12 Florida (28-12, 11-7).

Arkansas leads the SEC West by two games over second-place Mississippi State (29-10, 11-7) and is tied for the overall conference lead with No. 2 Vanderbilt (31-7, 13-5). The Razorbacks and Commodores don’t play in the regular season.

Arkansas received 28 of 32 firstplace votes in the coaches poll with Vanderbilt getting the other four after taking two of three games from Mississippi State last weekend.
