ELAINE CARR BARTON,
90, of Little Rock, left her failing mind and body, and peacefully joined those preceding her in death on April 29, 2021. Her three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren are grateful for her release.
Elaine was exceptionally bright, such that a duplicate set of school awards (she won them all) had to be created one year so other children could win one. Her immigrant parents did not know what to do with her, but loved her dearly. Elaine’s parents and only sibling, Larry, predecease her.
Married for 69 years until his death in 2018, Elaine and Murray were the first generation in their families to graduate college. They raised three children, who all attained advanced degrees: Francine B. Del Giacco, MSW (Eric); Douglas Barton, OD; and Gary Barton, MD (Kristi). All six grandchildren are also college graduates, some with advanced degrees. These educational achievements and raising three “good citizens” were a source of great fulfillment for Elaine, who taught school (primarily first grade) for many years. A polite, kind, humble, sweet, and selfless person, everyone who knew Elaine loved her. Even with dementia, she had a great sense of humor. Asking little for herself, countless times she told family members she was glad they were happy and enjoying life, even if it meant less time spent with her.
Grandchildren are: Rachel Johnson (Derek) of Colorado Springs, Colo. and their three children - Lilly, Arthur and Alan; Caroline Chang (Jon) of Little Rock (LR) and their twins, Abigail and Charlotte; Alex Barton (Alecia) of LR and daughter, Maeve; Justin Barton of Manhattan, NY; Claire Barton of LR; and Reid Barton of Memphis, Tenn.
She will be dearly missed, but will continue to live in the hearts, minds, and lives of her descendants. Immense gratitude for staff and caretakers at Fox Ridge - NLR, House of Three in LR, and Hospice Home Care LR. A private family memorial will be held.
