■ Ashley Miller, an Ocean City, Md., police spokesman, said a 2-year-old girl is in good condition after being thrown into the water from a pickup while still in her car seat and rescued by an unidentifi­ed man who jumped in to save her after a five-vehicle pileup on a bridge over Assawoman Bay.

■ Tim Nielsen, 57, of Chicago, faces four counts of attempted murder over accusation­s that he drove his pickup onto a median when he became angry that a group of “yuppies with dogs” were having a picnic in Logan Square, police said.

■ Zhou, a Chinese man identified only by his surname, passed undetected through a 100-mile stretch of the highly militarize­d Taiwan Strait in an 8-foot rubber dinghy, fleeing his native China for Taiwan in search of “freedom,” Taiwan’s coast guard said.
