JACK A. GRIEBEL, SR, passed

-

peacefully in his home with his two sons present on April 25, 2021, at age 94. Born to parents, Theodore Adolph Griebel and Lucille Woods Griebel in 1926, Jack grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Griebel. Jack faced many hardships in his early life. A victim of the banking collapse that led to the Great Depression, the family moved into a houseboat on the Arkansas River at the base of the Baring Cross railroad bridge. Surviving polio at age five, he was left unable to participate in games involving running, and learned to entertain himself by mastering the family’s rowboat on the River.

After graduating high school he became involved in the magazine and newspaper distribution business, and eventually established Jack’s Newstand, where he was the distributor of the Chicago Daily Racing Form for many years. A man of many talents, he became proficient in vegetable gardening on a commercial scale. As he grew older he established a small engine repair business. He enjoyed children and had an uncanny ability to calm young children.

He is survived by his two sons, Jack Griebel, Jr., Andy Griebel, and granddaughters, Lauren, Greer, and Meredith Griebel.

A reception will begin at Noon, on May 7, at the PineCrest Funeral Home, followed by funeral at 1 p.m., and graveside ceremony at 2 p.m., at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Geyer Spring First Baptist Church.
