Russellville artist places in BAAC National Juried Exhibition
The Batesville Area Arts Council is hosting the ninth annual BAAC National Juried Exhibition through June 5. The exhibition consists of 26 pieces from 21 artists across the United States.
One artist from the River Valley & Ozark Edition coverage area placed in the show. Sigrid Lorfing of Russellville garnered third place in the exhibit with “Thirteen Swans,” an acrylic on canvas.
Dennis McCann of Maumelle also had work exhibited in the show.
The artwork can be viewed online at www.batesvilleareaartscouncil.org/2021-juriedexhibition, or at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The juror for this year’s exhibition was Landon Perkins, an interdisciplinary artist from Tallahassee, Florida, and a preparator at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.
“While choosing this selection of works for the BAAC ninth annual juried exhibition,” Perkins said, “I couldn’t help but reflect on all the events that have impacted all of us over the past year. … For this year’s selection, I chose works that appeared to allude to some of these larger narratives, while also sharing a space for contemplation and solace to the viewer. …
“So much of the past year has seemed like one extreme to the next, so the works I chose focused mainly on observations dealing with the common, the everyday and alluding to possibly finding the sublime in these grounded environments. These moments of inner reflection often occur for any of us privately, in our own time and in our own unique way. These works give more than just merits of subjective beauty to a viewer. They give space to think and reflect about life, something that I think is pretty important these days.”
