MONTICELLO — Sammy Joe Mullis, Sr.,

age 83, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at The Woods Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. He was born August 20, 1937, in Florence, Ark., to the late Kennon Walter (K.W.) Mullis and Mary Youngblood Mullis. Sammy founded Sammy Mullis Insurance Agency on the square which recently celebrated over 50 years in business. He was a United States Air Force Veteran was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Eureka Lodge Monticello Chapter. Sammy enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Mullis of Monticello; one sister, Judy Mullis Clower (Johnny) of McGehee; two sons, Sam Mullis, Jr. (Donna) of Plano, Texas, and Jay Mullis of Fayetteville; one daughter, Tammy Mullis Knobloch (Charles) of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Sarah Mullis Sundberg (Chris) of Austin, Texas, Megan Mullis Guirguis (Andrew) of Los Angeles, Calif., Lauren Mullis, Mollie Mullis and Clay Mullis all of Fayetteville, K.C. Knobloch (Elyse) and Kelly Knobloch both of Monticello; five great-grandchildren, Virginia Sundberg of Austin, Texas, William Guirguis, Eleanor Guirguis and Gregory Joe Guirguis all of Los Angeles, Calif., Winston Knobloch and Wyatt Knobloch both of Monticello; along with many nephews and cousins who held a special place in his heart.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Kevin Henry officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Monticello, 2nd Chance FurDogs and the Monticello Historical Society.
