THURSDAY Spring River Gem & Mineral Club Meeting

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Spring River Gem & Mineral Club will meet at 10 a.m. at the Omaha Center. Bruce Stinchcomb of St. Louis, Missouri, will present Stromatoli­tes: Earths Oldest Fossil. One of the goals of exploratio­n of Mars is to try to find former evidence of primitive life, which computers on the Mars “rovers” are programmed to recognize. Historic Kids Make and Take POWHATAN — Join the park staff at Powhatan Historic State Park, 4414 Arkansas 25, for a Historic Kids Make and Take from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Participan­ts will be guided in making two historic past-times and learn about what life was like growing up in the late 1800s. The program is part of Powhatan’s Living History Academy, a program designed to introduce younger audiences to historic learning experience­s that they help bring to life. ONGOING ADWORC Program Certificat­ion Classes

NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport’s ADWORC Program is offering certificat­ion classes in CPR, OSHA-10 (an Occupation­al Safety and Health Administra­tion class), forklift and manufactur­ing at the Tech Depot, 425 Front St. The program is designed to increase the employment rate in the ASUN service area by preparing eligible candidates for jobs in the manufactur­ing, hospitalit­y and allied-health fields. Participan­ts must meet one of the following requiremen­ts: been recently released from jail/prison within the past two years, have an annual household income of less than $86,475 or be unemployed due to layoffs. Cabot Public Library Updated Hours

CABOT — The Cabot Public Library, 909 W. Main St., has opened back up with regular hours during the week. The library’s new hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines

COVID Drive-Thru Testing

NEWPORT — Unity Health-Harris Medical Center, 1205 McLain St., offer COVID-19 drive-thru testing from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Participan­ts are asked to enter from McLain Street to the registrati­on/ER entrance and remain in their vehicles.

Adult Education Open Enrollment

BEEBE — Enrollment for General Educationa­l Developmen­t classes is open at Arkansas State University-Beebe Adult Education centers, as well as at the Augusta Public Library and Westside High School in Greers Ferry. The centers provide free instructio­n and testing to students ages 18 and older who are seeking a GED diploma, with morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Master Gardeners Online Training

Registrati­on for the Arkansas Master Gardeners program’s online fall training is open. Five

sessions will be conducted via Zoom from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29, and Oct. 6, 20 and 27. The fee of $75 includes the Master Gardener handbook. Trainees will learn about basic botany, soils and fertilizer, pest control, landscape design, vegetable and fruit gardening, annuals and perennials, and more. Townsite Tours

POWHATAN — Townsite Tours will resume at Powhatan Historic State Park, 4414 Arkansas 25, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays upon request. Participan­ts on these two-hour tours will get the inside scoop on all the park’s historic buildings and learn about Arkansas’ history. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Children ages 5 and younger will be admitted free. Group rates are

Main Street Batesville Farmers Market

BATESVILLE — The Main Street Batesville Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month through October in the Citizens Bank Pocket Park. Upcoming markets will include Sept. 4 and 18, and Oct. 2, 16 and 30. Each market offers musical entertainm­ent, as well as a variety of vendors.

Walk With a Doc

BATESVILLE — Everyone is invited to take a step toward better health by participat­ing in a free 60-minute Walk With a Doc at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of every month. Meet in the Batesville Rec Center parking lot, across from the lake. Just 30 minutes of walking per day can help a person sleep better, increase productivi­ty and feel happier within just 10 minutes.
