78, of Little Rock, passed away August 13, 2021.

Born November 11, 1942 in Camden, Ark., he was the son of Russell and Eardene Thrower Horton.

Mr. Horton graduated from Philander Smith College, the University of Central Arkansas and did additional graduate work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He was a special education teacher with the Little Rock School District for 55 years where he had a special bond with his students. He also owned and operated Horton’s Janitorial Service in Little Rock for over 40 years. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Richard was a caring man who always offered his help to anyone in need. His first priority was always to make sure his family was taken care of and to insure his children had a firm foundation.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Zephyr Livingston Horton; two sons, Richard Horton, Jr., and Charles Horton, all of Little Rock; a daughter, Sherita Smith (Andre’) of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Russell Horton (Cynthia) of Little Rock, and Oscar Horton (Miriam) of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Mercille Springer (Paul), of Little Rock; a grandson, Tre’ Smith of Dallas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th Street, Little Rock (501) 661-9111 with Rev. Ronnie Miller-Yow officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
