transition­ed from earth to glory on September 1, 2021. He was born February 3, 1938. He accepted Christ at an early age and has been a lifelong member of Christ Temple Cathedral. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Sr. and Hersema Downs; sister, Eva Love; niece, Stephanie McDonald; and a brother and sister in infancy. He spent his early years in North Little Rock Ark., where he graduated from Scipio A. Jones High School and attended Baptist College. After a short stint in the Navy, he briefly attended nursing school. After nursing school, he was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad, where he met Joyce White. They were joined in marriage in 1962. Alfred retired from the United States Postal Service after 34 years and was a proud member of the National Associatio­n of Letter Carriers. After retirement, he worked various part-time jobs that he enjoyed. His hobbies included string art, wood working, playing computer games, watching Jeopardy, and playing cards and dominoes with friends and especially loved drinking Cokes. He loved his church and church family and sat in his special seat on the front row joyfully singing with a rich baritone. He was a proud member of the church’s Brotherhoo­d ministry and served as deacon of the church. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 59 years, Joyce; daughters, Meredith Cole (Rickey), Carol Hamilton (Christophe­r); and son, Anthony Downs (Marcia); grandchild­ren, Kodi, Tori and Alek Downs; RicKeisha and Marcus Cole; and great-grandson, Jayce Cole. He will be truly missed! Viewing/ Family hour: Monday, September 6, from 6-7 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, September 7, 11 a.m. Both services will be at the Christ Temple Cathedral Church COCHUSA, 1923 Arch Street, Little Rock.
