GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Lana Louise Brown,

aged 74, passed from this world peacefully at her home in Green Valley, Arizona, on August 10th, 2021. She was surrounded by loved ones, most especially her sole surviving child and caretaker in her final months, her son Brent Keeton Jones. She was born on October 22nd, 1946, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Mabel Simpson Brown and Lans Oliver Brown. Her eldest son, Wade Alan Jones, preceded her in death in 2017.

In addition to son Brent, she is survived by her former husband, Gordon Wayne Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, Dr. Randall Simpson Brown of Henderson, Ky., and Charles Allan Brown of Little Rock, Ark.; and sister, Lisa Diane Evans of Little Rock and her husband, Robert, also of Little Rock.

Lana was a nurturing mother and sister, loyal friend and devoted aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews. She loved animals throughout her life and at the end had a special place in her heart for her cat companions Leo, Miss Mo and Stevie Ray.

She graduated in 1968 from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas; and in 1982 from Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, with a master’s degree in Social Work. Most of her profession­al life was spent as a dedicated social worker in Texas and New Mexico improving the lives of others as best she could. Lana had an open, adventurou­s spirit and a compassion­ate heart that touched many lives. She loved to travel and lived for a number of years in Germany, Italy and England. She was passionate about liberal politics and a formidable foe in arguments. In her final years she was a keen birder. Memorials in her honor may be sent to the Audubon Society.
