Case filed after federal search notes Ashdown firearm cache

TEXARKANA —Rifles, pistols, a shotgun, five silencers and more than 600 rounds of ammunition are listed in a federal indictment charging an Ashdown man with violations of the National Firearms Act.

Reese Brad Bailey, 39, was arrested March 30 during a search at his home in the 1200 block of Blakely Drive over accusations regarding the illegal possession of National Firearms Act items, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Little River County Circuit Court.

Ashdown police assisted a Homeland Security Department search. According to a federal indictment pending in the Western District of Arkansas, a large cache of weapons and ammunition were found on Bailey’s property.

A forfeiture notice in the federal indictment lists five firearm silencers, parts for silencers, four rifles, two handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun and more than 600 rounds of various types of ammunition. Also seized was a gun bag containing miscellaneous “gun parts.”

At the time of the search, Bailey was charged at the state level with being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Bailey was on probation in Arkansas for a 2019 conviction for theft by receiving.

A federal indictment issued Sept. 15 and unsealed Monday in the Texarkana Division of the Western of Arkansas charges Bailey with possessing unregistered firearms silencers in violation of federal law.

Count two of the federal indictment accuses Bailey of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Bailey appeared Monday with Texarkana lawyer Darren Anderson for arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Bryant. Anderson entered pleas of innocent on Bailey’s behalf to the federal charges.

Bailey waived the issue of detention and remains in federal custody. His federal case is set for trial in November before U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey.
