Founders Day tourney set

- By Deborah Horn

This year’s 25th annual White Hall Founders Day Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at the Pine Bluff Country Club, 1100 W 46th Ave. Registration starts at 11 a.m., and tee time is set for 1 p.m.

The tournament is the White Hall Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraiser.

Kevin Bonnette, the golf tournament’s organizer and a chamber member, said there is still room for additional two-man scramble teams to sign up by deadline Wednesday, Oct. 6. The cost is $150 per team. This includes a spot in the tourney and a chance at door prizes with lunch provided at no cost.

The chamber has sponsored the White Hall Founders Day Golf Tournament since its inception. The golf tournament provides residents and members with an activity and a bonding experience, but ultimately it benefits a variety of residents of White Hall.

“The tournament helps us raise money and do good in our community,” Bonnette said.

It funds activities such as Founders Day and Trade Days, both of which are free to the public. It also funds the next year’s golf tournament.

But this money also funds the chamber’s annual scholarship program.

Each year, scholarships are awarded to White Hall High School graduating seniors for academic excellence.

This past spring, they presented three students, Adam Scott Taylor, Abbie Elizabeth Walls and Ty Allen McDaniel, with a $1,000 scholarship each.

Bonnette said it’s also used to help the White Hall Food Pantry with much-needed food items. These are distributed to recipients at no charge.
