LRAFB Commissary Temporary Closing
LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE — The Little Rock Air Force Base Commissary is scheduled to be temporarily closed today as part of an ongoing sustainment project to improve the facility. The Commissary will also be closed Monday, as normally scheduled, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for Early Bird Shopping and at 9 a.m. for normal operating hours. SATURDAY Feed the Veterans Pantry
CABOT — The Feed the Veterans Pantry, 1212 S. Second St., will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to veterans and their family members who are younger than 18. Shoppers will need a DD 214 and a photo ID or a military ID card or a V.A. card. Veterans and their families can select nonperishable food items and personal-hygiene items — no prepackaged boxes. Powhatan Ghostwalks
POWHATAN — Ghostwalks at Powhatan Historic State Park has been revamped this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “To put the safety of our guests and staff first, we’re putting a socially distant ‘twist’ on the event,” Park Interpreter Geoffrey Havens said. Instead of the usual storytelling event, Powhatan will host a limited number of reservations-only, lantern-lit townsite tours at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. Powhatan’s spooky past will be well-represented on the guided walk. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children ages 5 and younger. The River Haunt
BATESVILLE — Main Street Batesville will once again host its fundraiser The River Haunt, with 10,000-plus square feet of twisted terror. The River Haunt will open at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as Oct. 22-23 and 29-31 on the banks of the White River, at 570 Stadium Drive. Arkansas Arts Organization Grants
LITTLE ROCK — The application period is open for the Arkansas Arts Council American Rescue Plan Grants to aid 501(c)(3) arts groups based in Arkansas that have experienced financial hardships or loss of program capacity because of lost revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic. Arnold Gate Closure for Construction
LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE — The Arnold Gate, also known as “the back gate,” at 399 Arnold Drive on the Little Rock Air Force Base, will be closed to all traffic from Monday until Jan. 27 for a construction project. The gate is accessed from Arkansas 107. The Harris Road gate, also known as “the school gate,” at 2905 Harris Road, near General Samuels Road, will serve as an alternate entrance from 6:30-8:30 a.m. and from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during construction. The Vandenberg Gate, or “the main gate,” at 1500 Vandenberg Blvd., will remain open 24/7.
Haunted House
BETHESDA — The Bethesda Community Center, 65 Lawrence Road, will present its annual haunted house at 7 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October, as well Oct. 28 and 31. Hamburgers, hot dogs and other concessions are sold during the event, as well as “I Survived”T-shirts. There is also a selfie booth onsite, as well as community restrooms. Admission is $10, and no one younger than 13 will be admitted without an adult. The haunted house is inside the community center, about 8 miles west of Batesville. Mindfulness Mondays
BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library, 267 E. Main St., will offer Mindfulness Mondays for teens ages 13 to 19 from 4-5 p.m. each Monday. The event will include a guided meditation and mindful snacks. Beginners are encouraged to attend. Yoga mats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, or participants can bring their own. Arkansas Sheriffs’Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch
BATESVILLE — The Arkansas Sheriffs’Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch will be open through Oct. 31 at 100 St. Vincent Place. The fall festival will be open for groups by appointment only Monday through Friday, and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and from 1-4 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $10 and includes a pumpkin, a cookie to decorate, hay rides, train rides, a petting zoo, a corn pit, the Haunted Forest, bouncy houses, carnival games and more. Many locations for fall photos with the family are available, along with fun photo spots for the kids. Calico Rock Museum Memorial Bricks
CALICO ROCK — The Calico Rock Community Foundation is selling memorial bricks to be added to the Main Street Memorial Walk in front of the Calico Rock Museum. These 8-by-8-inch bricks cost $100 each and can include up to 21 characters per line, with up to eight lines of text. Coats for Kids
NEWPORT — The Unity Health Newport Auxiliary is hosting a fall Coats for Kids drive for the children of Jackson County through Friday. Donations of new or gently used coats are accepted at the following locations: First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Holden Avenue Church of Christ, the Newport Chamber of Commerce, the Jackson County Courthouse and Unity Health Newport. The free coats will be distributed to those in need from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 23 in the Newport High School Cafeteria.
