GEORGE S. JONES, JR.

of North Little Rock, went home to be with his Lord November 24, 2021. He was born to the late Thelma Nutt Jones and George S. Jones, Sr., on April, 20, 1942, in Pine Bluff, Ark. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University and fulfilled his life’s calling to mentor young people as a high school football coach/teacher. His coaching journey led him to Bradley, Augusta, McCrory, Bald Knob, North Little Rock and Mayflower. His successful career was recognized by Mayflower High School where the football field is named in his honor.

Survivors include his children: Stephen Jones (Tammy), Dr. Jon Jones (Angie), and Mark Jones; grandchild­ren: Elise, Luke, Mackenzie (Joseph Sitzman), Drew, Lia, and Abrah Jones; great-grandchild­ren, Hayloh, Abel and Steele; siblings: Billy Jones, Carolyn Lindaman and Raymond “Buddy” Jones; and other extended family members.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kay Jones and siblings: David Jones, Norma Jean Reaves, and Marilyn “Sissy” Whitehurst.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to Joy Richardson, Christine Tirman, and Gwynn Turpin, his wonderful caretakers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central AR Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Coach George Jones Memorial Fund, 10411 West Markham, Suite 100, Little Rock, Ark., 72205. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., with a celebratio­n of life to follow at 2 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2021, at Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 116 S. Pine Street, North Little Rock, Ark.
