BENTONVILL­E — Guy James Cable, Sr,

86, of Bentonvill­e, Ark., passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 in Rogers. He was born February 18, 1935 in Fort Sill, Okla., to Guy James Cable and Bertha (Hines) Cable.

He was a 1952 graduate of Rogers High School and attended the University of Arkansas on a basketball scholarshi­p in 1953. On May 29, 1954, he married the love of his life, Emma Shirlene Broyles. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1954-1958. While in the Air Force, he played basketball for Lackland Air Force Base. In 1959, he began working at the Rogers Post Office, where he continued to work until 1990. In 2009, he was inducted into the Rogers High School basketball Hall of Fame.

In 1990, he retired and began to RV all over the U.S. making new friends and experienci­ng the beauty of the America he loved while wintering in Alamo, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emma Shirlene; one daughter: Candy McLelland and husband Dick; one son: Guy Cable, Jr. and wife Elizabeth; one sister: Ruby Armstrong; six grandchild­ren: Jennifer Montgomery and husband Matt, MacKenzie Hahn and husband David, Kennedy Hayden and husband Richard, Cole Cable and wife Haley, Rob McLelland and wife Samantha, Britt Dugal and husband Tim; and five great-grandchild­ren: Eli, Paisley, Katie, Trevor, and Brandon.

Guy was patriotic, full of humor, joyful, had a great love of God, and cherished his family dearly.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, at Southside Church of Christ in Rogers, under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Rogers, with Mr. Paul Woodhouse officiatin­g.
