Hogs to see familiar face
FAYETTEVILLE — Texas A&M forward Ethan Henderson will face his old team when the Aggies play the University of Arkansas at noon today in Reed Arena.
Henderson, a 6-8 senior from Little Rock Parkview, played the previous three seasons at Arkansas before transferring to Texas A&M.
In 14 games this season, including starts the last five, Henderson is averaging 2.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes. He has a team-high 11 blocked shots.
Mike Anderson recruited Henderson to Arkansas and was his coach for one season.
Eric Musselman coached Henderson for two seasons after replacing Anderson.
“Ethan does a great job of understanding his game,” Musselman said. “He was a pleasure to coach. Really nice young man. Plays with energy, runs the floor really hard, really good shot blocker.
“Actually, Texas A&M’s a great fit for him because they have a lot of shooting, great three-point shooting team and that allows Ethan to play with space. He’s found a really good spot for him and a good system for him.”
Henderson has hit 18 of 28 shots (64.3%) with a scoring high of seven points against Butler. His season-high for rebounds is eight against Northwestern (La.) State.
“Obviously, if he’s out in front of his guy, he does a good job of rim-running and does a good job as a trail man,” Musselman said. “Of setting drag screens and rolling hard to the rim and they’ll throw some lobs to him when he’s at that dunker spot.
“So he’s done a really good job for Coach [Buzz] Williams.”
Henderson played in 50 games during his Arkansas career with six starts and averaged 1.3 points and 1.6 rebounds. He had 30 blocked shots.
