SAMMY MCGHEE,

of North Little Rock, passed from this life on January 15, 2022, at the age of 89. Sammy was born June 12, 1932, in England, Ark., as the only child of the late Reber and Gladys Inez (Wesson) McGhee. He grew up in and graduated from Scott High School and then Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) with a bachelor’s degree in business. After graduation Sammy went to work for the Crossett Arkansas School District. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served two years.

In 1961 he began farming in the Scott area. His operation grew to include 7,000 acres producing cattle, cotton, rice, and soybeans. He retired from farming in 1998. In addition to his career Sammy was deeply devoted to his faith and his family. He was previously a member of Toltec Baptist Church in Scott where he served as a deacon and was currently a member of Graves Memorial Baptist Church in North Little Rock. Sammy also served on the Pulaski Conservati­on District Board, the Pulaski Farm Bureau including two terms as President, the State Farm Bureau Board, the Pulaski County School Board, and the Lonoke ASCS Committee. He was also an avid Razorback fan.

Despite all his profession­al and personal success, Sammy found his greatest sense of pride in his family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and Papaw. He could always be counted on as a listening ear for troubles, a sounding board for ideas and a presence of reassuranc­e and peace in times of trouble. Survivors include his wife, Nadine McGhee; children, Steve McGhee (Bernice), Mike McGhee (Mitzi), Chris Stewart (Marshall), Gary Parker (Wava), Terry Parker (Varnea). Other survivors include grandchild­ren, Nick McGhee (Heather), Lacey McGhee, Justin McGhee (Michelle), Garrett McGhee (Courtney), Maddison Stone (Cameron), Carson Stewart, Kindall Denmon (Chad), Clay Parker (Molly), and Alicia Parker; great grandchild­ren, Kaylee McGhee, Mason McGhee, Hadley Treadway, Carson Carlisle, Waylon McGhee, Gianna McGhee, Magnum McGhee, Willow McGhee, Thomas Stone, Kai Denmon, Ezra Denmon, Grey Denmon, Penn Parker and J.D. Parker; along with a host of other family and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGhee was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Ann Fielder McGhee.

Gravesides services will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Keo Cemetery with Travis Matthews and Chad Denmon officiatin­g.
