-

Gene Clements, age 77, of Magnet Cove passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. Gene was born December 22, 1944 in Malvern, AR to George and Janet Adkins Clements. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Donald Clements and Richard David Clements.

Gene retired from Entergy with over 34 years of service, beginning around 19671968 and ending in 2002. He began working for AP&L as an apprentice lineman with General Office crews who were responsible for building transmission lines throughout Arkansas. Through the years, he worked his way up through the ranks as Journeyman Lineman, Senior Lineman, Foreman, Area Line Supervisor, and then Network Manager. Gene received many awards and commendations for his service with Entergy. One highlight in his career occurred in 1992, when he served as coach to team of linemen from Malvern who beat 186 other teams and won the National Lineman’s Rodeo in Kansas City.

Gene loved his job, but he loved lots of other things too! He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved fishing. He loved having a good time. He loved singing, especially, “Have you ever in your life seen a bullfrog and his wiiiiife?” to his grandkids! He loved living on the property where he grew up. He loved his church family. He loved playing with his grandchildren, well, with all children. He loved having the opportunity to help launch a Magnet Cove Panther Fishing Team in the last year of his life. He loved conversing with some guys in the mornings before THEY went to work. After he retired, he didn’t want people using the word work around him, but he did use it when he said, “There ain’t nothing prettier than a working woman”. Did we mention that he loved fishing? He loved talking to people. Judy said he stayed on the phone more than any woman she knew! He loved supporting the Magnet Cove Panthers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved to fix things. He loved to help other people fix things whether they wanted help or not. He loved Gramps’s cookies and he loved Gramps’ cookies. He loved helping people. As he got older, he was saddened when he could only fish half a day at a time…6am to 6pm! He loved discussing the Bible. He used to love Mountain Dew, and he probably used to love lots of other things too. There was one thing though that remained constant: He loved God. He trusted Christ as his personal Savior a long time ago and was confident where he’d go after his life here ended. You didn’t have to be around him long, and he’d eventually get the conversation headed in a spiritual direction, because he wanted others to have that same confidence.

Gene was survived by his wife, Judy Clements; son and daughter in law, Doug & Valerie Wells Clements of Magnet Cove, daughter and son in law, Jan & Charles Lunsford of White Hall, and Kevin Endsley & Keaton Endsley of the home; grandchildren, Kasey Clements Gage & husband Jeff of Magnet Cove, Mitchell Clements of Owasso, OK, Jordan Lunsford Farnsworth & husband Tyler of Redfield, and Jared Lunsford of White Hall; great-grandchildren Paisley Gage & a yet-to-be-born-baby Gage of Magnet Cove, Linzee, Emmalee & Natalee Clements of Owasso, OK, and Darcy & Cooper Farnsworth of Redfield.
