HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — LTC William “Bill” L. Lytle,

(USA, retired), 87, of Huntsville, Ala., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Bill was born in North Little Rock, Ark., to Cyrus Julian and Esther E. Lytle.

Bill attended public schools in Little Rock, Ark., and high school in Kemper Military School in Booneville, Mo. Bill attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a degree in Business in 1958. He received his commission as a Quartermas­ter 2nd Lieutenant in 1957. He made the best decision of his life in March 1960 when he married Marion.

Bill’s military assignment­s included, Ft. Lee, Va., Fort Knox, Ky., Camp Gary, Texas, Korean Military Advisory Group, Kwengju, South Korea, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Ft. Lewis, Wash., Petroleum Distributi­on Command Europe, Donges, France, Republic of Viet Nam (twice), Fort Benning, Ga., Puerto Rico, Fort Hood, Texas, and Redstone Arsenal, Ala. His duty assignment­s were from Platoon Leader to Battalion Commander in ranks from 2nd Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel. Military decoration­s awarded include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with two Oak-Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendati­on Medal with two Oak-Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service with 4 Stars (two tours), and Meritoriou­s Unit Commendati­on (MACV).

Retiring from the Army in 1981 after 22 years of service, Bill and Marion settled in Huntsville, Ala. In 1982, Bill worked as a Systems Analyst for Teledyne Brown Engineerin­g (TBE) on a number of defense contracts. He retired from TBE in 1992.

Bill’s interests included hunting, fishing, poker, ROMEO Club, reading, and church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marion.

Survivors include son, William B. Lytle and wife, Karen, of Littleton, Colo.; daughter, Debra Lombardi-Lytle and wife Sandra Lombardi-Lytle of Santa Clara, Calif.; granddaugh­ters, Kristina Cahalan and Juliana De Battista; and great-grandson, Chase William Cahalan.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (https://support.woundedwar­riorprojec­t.org/donate).
