BENTON — Margaret Ann Burks Bass Lockhart,

88, died peacefully March 10, 2023, at Alcoa Pines nursing home in Benton, Ark. of natural causes. She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla.

May 14, 1934 to Earlie Edmond Burks and Mildred Beers. In 1936, the family moved to North Little Rock, Ark., where Ann was reared by her parents and her half-siblings Harold, Herschel and Helen, all of whom predecease­d her, together with another half-brother, Bennie Hofstetter. Ann graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1952 and married her first husband, Samuel Arvil Bass in 1955. They were blessed with two children, Sandra Ann and Michael Edmond. After Sam’s death in 1973, Ann married Billy Joe Lockhart, an AB merchant seaman. They were married almost 33 years when Billy died in 2009. Ann worked for the U of A extension service, then returned to school to become an LPN. She finished her working career as secretary to the chief of Rehab Medicine at the VA (Fort Roots). She was a lifelong Baptist, and an active member of Cornerston­e Fellowship Baptist Church in Hensley, Ark. She is survived by her children, Sandra Holland and husband Steve of East End; Michael Bass of Landmark Community; step-sons, Sam and Billy Carl Lingo; grandchild­ren, Stephanie A. Bent husband Jeremy; Drew Chandler; a niece, Linda Reed; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be donated to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, Ark., 72210.

Funeral for Ann will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in the chapel of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, with visitation to begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, under the direction of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home.
