PEGGY JO CLAY,

-

60, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, after a brave battle with cancer.

Peggy was born in Morrilton, Ark., to William “Peat” and Artie Clay. Her love for animals began at a young age growing up on the family farm. She won multiple prizes with her horse “Old Buck” and loved competing alongside her father in regional shows. Later in life, Peggy loved caring for her Yorkie children, Rigby and Violet.

While studying at Ouachita Baptist University, Peggy discovered her passion for education. She taught in Louisville, Ky., Norman, Okla., and Little Rock, Ark., during her career. She was at the forefront of the field and was passionate about finding new ways to engage every student. Peggy had a special place in her heart for Pulaski Heights Elementary where she taught for over 20 years alongside some of her closest friends. Her spirit and passion lives on in the hundreds of students whose lives she touched during her career.

Peggy was an incredible mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She had a unique ability to make you feel wholly loved, special, and that you could do anything you set your mind to. Peggy encouraged her children and the children she taught to pursue their dreams — changing all of our lives in the process. We are forever thankful for her kindness and gentle spirit.

Peggy is survived by her children, Emily Woodell (Alex) and Nathan Woodell (Abby); her mother, Artie Clay; her siblings, Bill Clay (Janet), Jim Clay (Judy) and Ronnie Clay (Kristi); her beloved nieces and nephews; and an incredible group of dear friends.

The family hosted memorial service will take place on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Pulaski Heights Elementary School in the garden.
