CAROLYN NABHOLZ MCCAULEY,

-

86, of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Carolyn was born on December 21, 1936, in Little Rock, Ark., to Clara & Anton Nabholz.

She graduated from Mount St. Mary in 1954 and St. Vincent Infirmary School of Nursing in 1957. She married her husband of 62 years, Frank W. McCauley on New Year’s Eve 1959.

Carolyn spent her life serving the needs of her patients as a Registered Nurse. She started her career as a nurse for St. Vincent, then worked many years at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Little Rock, before retiring from where it all started, St. Vincent.

While her children went to St. Mary School (NLR) she volunteered and lead the Girl Scout Troop. Her life’s dream was having and raising her seven children, as she waited the arrival of her grandchildren. She retired early in 1995 to start watching her first grandson, Blake and continued to watch the rest of her grandchildren until 2005. Carolyn loved spending the weekends at her lake house on Geer’s Ferry, scrapbooking and making birthday, anniversary and Christmas cards. She proudly had “on-going” scrapbooks for all her grandchildren. In a quote from her MSM 50-year class reunion Classmate Summary, mom said, “I have a full life with my children and grandchildren. It just couldn’t be any better”.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Rose Marie Nabholz and Lillian Hess and granddaughter; Clara Ellen Jacques. She is survived by her siblings; Theresa Bartlett, Margie (Jim) Johnson, Toni Nabholz (George Huse), and Michael (Pamela) Nabholz; her children, Catherine (Thomas) Jacques, Marjorie (Dan) Dudek, David (Lori) McCauley, Barbara (Brent) Sawrie, Andrew (Melissa) McCauley, James Richard “J.R” McCauley, Darryl (Shelia) McCauley, sister-in-law Alberta Pearson, brother-in-law Richard (Kathleen) McCauley; many nephews and nieces; her beloved grandchildren, Blake, Alexis (McCauley), Ayden, Harrison, Zach, Kate (Sawrie), Zealand and Sarah Kate (Jacques). Mom considered other friends to be family, and we keep them in our thoughts.

Carolyn always said, ‘send me flowers when I am alive so I can enjoy them, not when I am dead” so in lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 211 W. 19th St, North Little Rock, Ark. 72114 or Arkansas Children’s Hospital online or P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, Ark. 72116.

Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. Mass will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 22, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
