ALPINE — Billy C. Karber

age 85, of Alpine, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in Hot Springs, Ark. He was born October 25, 1937, to John Morgan Karber, Sr., and Myrtle Icee Pierce Karber.

Billy attended Henderson State University, where he was a member of ROTC. He served in the 1st Battalion 153rd Infantry of the Arkansas National Guard for eight years. Billy began working for the Arkansas Highway & Transporta­tion’s Engineerin­g Crew from 1966 until 1979. In 1979, he joined the AHTD Maintenanc­e Crew in Clark County where he was promoted to Foreman 1983. Billy retired from the Arkansas Highway & Transporta­tion Department in 2002 with 36 years of service.

Mr. Karber was a Shriner and 32nd-degree Mason with Arkadelphi­a Lodge #381. He loved the Round Table at Trudy’s in Amity and enjoyed being a part of the Andy’s Coffee Club on Sundays.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie Lou Loy Karber; his siblings; Mark Karber, Maxine Cable Beaty, John Morgan Karber, Jr., James Karber, and Jerry Karber, Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Wright and husband, Brett of Glenwood, Tonya Harrison and husband, David of Arkadelphi­a; five grandchild­ren, Kris Jennings and husband Eran, Brooke Jackson and husband, Dalton, Jared Wright and wife Madison, Dalton Guthrie, and Blair Nutt and husband, Justin; two great-granddaugh­ters, Reese Jennings and Georgia Nutt; two great-grandsons, Jett Jennings and Cooper Jackson; one special niece, Ktrina Loy Patton; and one special nephew, Jerry Karber Jr., and wife Jennifer.

Arrangemen­ts are entrusted to Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home, 517 Clay Street, Arkadelphi­a, Ark. 71923. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 2nd, with burial at Jones Cemetery at Amity.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607, or to Ryan’s Call Foundation, P.O Box 252, Amity, Ark. 71921.

The family will be gathering at the Karber homestead at the foot of the mountain in east Alpine.
