PINE BLUFF — Janie Lee McNulty,

-

devoted family matriarch, died Friday, June 23, 2023 at Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Ark., at the age of 101.

Janie was born in Little Rock, Ark., on November 18, 1921 to Arthur Fuller Lee and FaDelle Hightower Lee. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

In 1942, she married Gordon M. McNulty, and they enjoyed fifty-seven years of loving marriage until Gordon’s death in 2000. After World War II, they settled in Pine Bluff to raise their three children, Gordon, Janelle and Sue.

Currently a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, Janie was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. She served as an officer, study leader and circle leader of United Methodist Women. A sustaining member of the Junior League of Pine Bluff, she served as president of its predecessor, the Junior Auxiliary of Pine Bluff. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for many years and maintained her membership until she was 100 years old.

Janie lived a life full of family and friends. She was tireless in supporting her children in all their activities whether it was playing ball, cheerleading or scouts. She attended all their ballgames, dance and piano recitals. She taught by example that you were nice to people, you worked hard - went the extra mile in what you did, and you gave back. Her door was always open with her house being a home away from home for many of her children’s friends.

After moving to an apartment at Trinity Village Retirement Center at the age of 80, she made many new friends with whom she loved to visit, play bridge, and give parties. From her time as a student at the University of Arkansas through the years her son was an Arkansas Razorback football player, she developed a love for anything “Arkansas Razorback.” It was no surprise that on her 101st birthday, her face lit up as she expressed her readiness to take one more trip to Fayetteville to see new developments at the University she so loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon McNulty; grandson, David McNulty; grandson, Peter McNulty; daughter-inlaw, Linda Beth McNulty; brother, Arthur David Lee; sister, Dell Lee Quattlebaum Mullins; along with countless friends.

Nana, as she was known to family and their friends, is survived by her three children: Gordon and his wife Betty, Janelle and her husband Ron, Sue and her husband Kirk; nine grandchildren: Ronnie Powell and his wife Kathy, Jennifer Sparks and her husband William, Stephanie Young and her husband Brian, Matt McNulty and his wife Amy, Jonathan McNulty, Jake McNulty and his wife Molly, Joshua McNulty and his wife Stacie, Janie Hankins and her husband Philip, and Jessica Stone; along with eighteen great-grandchildren: Jack Powell, Hunter Powell, Palmer Powell, Ford Sparks, Nelson Sparks, Carter Young, Grant Young, Stone Staudt, River Staudt, Ash Elizabeth Sporleder, Violet Hankins, Kirkwood Hankins, Isabella McNulty, Gaberella McNulty, Wilma McNulty, Frances McNulty, Jordan McNulty, and Triston McNulty. Her steadfast spirit and memory will be cherished by her family and family friends. Janie will always be remembered as a gracious, kind, and loving person.
