SPRINGDALE — Glenda R. Newman,

a long time resident of both Springdale & Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away peacefully at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark., on August 22, 2023. She was born January 4, 1943, in Crossett, Ark., the daughter of Ruth and Billy Rawls.

Glenda spent her youth in Crossett and after graduating high school won Arkansas State Forestry Queen in 1960 and traveled the state of Arkansas for one full year promoting the timber industry. She later attended the University of Arkansas-Fayettevil­le. She married Pat Hanby in 1962 and started a family in Springdale. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and joined the Wednesday Bridge club (that met on Thursdays) which still meets after 50+ years. She also served on the Ozark Guidance Center board for 17 years.

She became a founding partner in The Designer’s Touch, a boutique interior design firm, with her dear friends, Betty Bailey, Carol Lynn Gibson and the late Conjie Williams.

Glenda later married Dwain Newman in December 1979 and became active in National Home Centers. She was Corporate Executive Assistant and Vice President and was primarily involved in the annual statewide contractor incentive travel program for over 30 years to destinatio­ns all over the world entertaini­ng customers. Her diligent work and planning enabled home builders, their spouses, National Home Center managers and many friends to create everlastin­g travel memories.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents and a stepson, Mike Newman. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dwain Newman; two sons, Brent Hanby of Springdale, Blake Hanby (Beth) of Bentonvill­e; step-son, Jeff Newman of Fayettevil­le; step-daughter, Kristy Newman of Grandview, Texas; and “daughter”, Michelle Hanby of Fayettevil­le. Glenda adored her precious grandchild­ren: Payton Hanby, Jake Hanby, Chase Hanby, Hallie Hanby, Jay Newman and Shelby Newman. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Pugh, of Foley, Ala.

Services will be held Monday, August 28, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, Springdale, Ark., at 10 a.m. No graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at Circle of Life Hospice, Ozark Guidance Center or the First United Methodist Church Foundation, all of Springdale, Ark.
