Hendrix (2-2) piled up the yards and points at Harper Davis Field in Jackson, Miss., to pick up its first road win since 2021.
Jacob Buniff finished 24-of35 passing for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Warriors, who scored 27 points in the first quarter and led 40-14 by halftime. Hendrix’s lead ballooned to 46-14 early in the third quarter following a 20-yard touchdown catch by Kanyn Utley, but a late flurry of scoring allowed Millsaps (0-4) to close the gap.
Utley caught 9 passes for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Peyton Wingfield had 4 catches for 108 yards and 1 score for the Warriors. Jax Johnson also chimed in with 100 yards receiving on 4 receptions and caught a touchdown pass as Hendrix collected 570 yards of total offense. Auvic White scored on 1- and 2-yard runs, while Jason Sullivan, who led the Warriors with 82 yards on the ground, ran for a touchdown as well.
The teams were tied at 14-14 midway through the opening period until Johnson’s 52-yard touchdown catch started a string of 27 straight points for Hendrix.
White scored on back-to-back drives, and Wingfield’s 72-yard scoring catch allowed Hendrix to hold its 26-point halftime lead.
Jennings Gray threw for 418 yards and five touchdowns for Millsaps.
LYON 30, WESTMINSTER (MO.) 7
Brady Miller shook off last week’s dismal performance with an efficient outing Saturday afternoon to lead Lyon (2-2) to an impressive victory at Pioneer Stadium in Batesville.
Miller, who passed for just 24 yards with three interceptions in an 85-0 loss to Howard Payne on Sept. 16, went 14 of 23 for 134 yards with 2 touchdowns for the Scots, who forced three turnovers and held Westminster (0-3) to 141 yards of offense.
Miller also scored on a 2-yard run with 4:32 to go in the first quarter to get Lyon off and running.
The Blue Jays got as close as 10-7 in the second quarter following a 1-yard touchdown run from Payton Byerley, which came after a Miller interception at Lyon’s 13. But Westminster did little after that.
Jaylin Babers, who had 71 yards on 14 carries in the game, scored on an 8-yard run just before halftime, and Miller fired touchdown passes to Reginald Brown II and Xavier Long in the third quarter to put Lyon comfortably ahead.
Trace Helsel had a team-high 52 yards rushing for Westminster. Byerley ended the day 9 of 25 for 51 yards and 2 interceptions.
NAIA OKLA. PANHANDLE ST. 31, ARKANSAS BAPTIST 19
Brandon Stephens passed for two scores on ran for another to lead Oklahoma Panhandle State (12) over Arkansas Baptist (0-3) at Goodwell, Okla.
Stephens had a 36-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, hit Draylon Roberson with a 19-yard TD pass in the second and a 13-yarder to Ryan Acosta in the third.
Arkansas Baptist quarterback Anton Clayton finished 12 of 34 for 160 yards and 1 touchdown, but he also had 5 interceptions.
Clayton rushed for 79 yards and a 20-yard TD on 15 carries. DeAvion Collins rushed seven times for 80 yards.
