UAMS brings health care to communities across the state
As a proud sponsor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s 2023 Health and Wellness Expo, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences strives to educate Arkansans on the many services available at its facilities.
Did you know that UAMS is more than a hospital in Little Rock? With a Northwest Arkansas regional campus in Fayetteville and a statewide network of regional campuses, UAMS is bringing top-notch health care to Arkansas communities.
Seven institutes — the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute, the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, the Translational Research Institute and the Institute for Digital Health & Innovation — offer groundbreaking treatments in a variety of specialties.
Within the Institute on Aging, the Thomas and Lyon Longevity Clinic provides primary care for seniors. The clinic has successfully attained Level I Certification as an Age-Friendly Health System by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and The John A. Hartford Foundation.
Specialists and subspecialists come to see patients at the clinic, eliminating the need for them travel to multiple doctor’s offices. The clinic’s team-based holistic approach offers primary-care geriatricians, advanced-practice nurses, pharmacists, social workers and staff to coordinate and manage complex issues that older adults may face.
The institute and its Centers on Aging throughout the state serve the needs of an aging generation with the highest standards of research and care. Each Center on Aging offers a program designed to help seniors remain in their homes as they age well. Called the Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program, it is available for teaching the basics of caring for someone with special needs at home.
This year, UAMS opened The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital on the Little Rock campus, bringing orthopaedic surgery, spine care and pain management under one roof. UAMS was also the first health organization in Arkansas to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Certification in Spinal Fusion. UAMS also opened a new Radiation Oncology Center with expanded capabilities to provide advanced radiation treatments for children and adults with cancer, including the state’s first Proton Center.
UAMS is dedicated to improving the health, health care and well-being of Arkansans. From education and research to clinical care, UAMS is committed to a better state of health.
