WINTHROP — James “Jim” Franklin Blackmon

-

of Little River Club, passed away on Oct. 7, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends providing love, support, and encouragement.

He was born June 28, 1941, in Dewitt, Ark. to the late Ruby and Ed Blackmon. He grew up in DeWitt and De Kalb, Tex. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1963, where he met his wife and closest friend, Kaye Blackmon. They moved to De Queen in 1968 where he began his first career as a pharmacist. He joined his brother in the late 1970s as an auctioneer where they worked side-by-side until he retired. Jim and Kaye made Little River Club their home in 1995.

Jim freely shared his love with those around him, not only through his words but his actions too. Those who crossed his path always left a little better off. He could find a talent, experience, or trait in everyone that should be praised—and he would do just that. If you were in his world, you knew you had a friend. Jim loved Jesus Christ and he loved others just as he was loved.

His passions over the years included singing gospel music, fishing, technology, and the Little River Club. In his later years, that passion turned intently to his family—their interests were his interests. Jim supported and encouraged Kaye’s artwork, his sons’ careers, and his grandchildren’s academic and athletic pursuits as if they were his own.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kaye Blackmon; his sons, Bentley Blackmon (Sydney Bueter Blackmon) and Brandon Blackmon; his grandchildren, Collin Blackmon, Ben Blackmon, and Griffin Blackmon; his sister, Ella Braden; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Blackmon Dale; and his brothers, Eddie Blackmon and Tom Blackmon.

There will be a reception celebrating his life on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Little River Club Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jim Blackmon Fund at Little River Club for club beautification projects. Little River Club Inc., 392 Country Club Rd., Winthrop, Ark. 71866.
