VILONIA — George McCrory,

-

80, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle with many more family members and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 8, 2023, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was residing at Seeds of Love. He was born November 15, 1942, in Boyle, Miss. He moved to California in 1962, where he and his two older children, Beverly and Scott lived with his former wife. George met the love of his life, Christie, in 1970, and they married in 1972. Together they had a son, Patrick, who he spent a great deal of time with passing on his knowledge of construction, mechanics and all the other life lessons. Patrick brought to us our sweet daughter-in-law Barbara and added all her family to ours.

After retiring from the fire department in California, he and his family moved to Arkansas where he purchased 50+ acres and turned this into a farm where he raised horses and cattle. With help he built a farmhouse and lived there for 37 years until his placement. It was his dream to own land and raise animals and he got to realize this at 43 years old. George was a lover of traveling, the outdoors, wildlife, Westerns, grilling, and life on his farm. He loved spending time on his tractors or using other farm machinery.

George’s biggest passion was his commitment to family and friends and he looked forward to gatherings filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. He enjoyed creating happy moments like taking others out on the lake to ski, helping them fish in his ponds, or ride on his horses. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids, Chloe and Griffin, helping them fish, riding them on his mule, and wrestling with them.

He lived a rich life spent in service to others. He worked as a nurse, firefighter, real estate agent, builder, farmer, handyman, small engine repairman and finally, after retirement, he repaired nail guns. Some of George’s favorite hobbies were tending to his property and taking care of all the animals that lived there, sitting on the dock feeding the fish, being outside with friends and family and enjoying thunderstorms and the stars at night.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice McCrory; brothers, Robert Wayne, Jim (Carol), and Albert (Wanda).

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Christie; sons, Patrick (Barbara), and James Scott and daughter Beverly; and by his grandchildren, Ashley, Nicholas, Chloe, and Griffin. Also survived by brother, William David (Becky), sisters, Mary Jo Threadgill (Tom), and Sara Poule (Fred).

His family would like to thank the staff at Seeds of Love for caring for him this last 18 months. They were wonderful to him.

Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to The Alzheimer’s Foundation in memory of George and requests you spend some time outdoors with the ones you love. The best thing to hold onto is each other.
