Brazile injury a severe sprain

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas swingman Trevon Brazile did not practice Wednesday and his status for Saturday’s game against No. 19 Oklahoma at Tulsa is murky.

Coach Eric Musselman confirmed Brazile suffered a severe sprained ankle late in Monday’s 97-83 win over Furman at Walton Arena.

The 6-10 redshirt sophomore’s latest injury came almost a year to the day after he went down with a torn knee ligament in a 65-58 win over North Carolina-Greensboro and had surgery that caused him to miss the rest of the season.

The prognosis this year is much better, but the swollen ankle might keep him out of a marquee matchup against Oklahoma for the second consecutive year.

“[Brazile] will not participate in anything we do today,” Musselman said prior to Wednesday’s practice. “There’s a possibility of him going on an underwater treadmill to walk tomorrow. So not a glowing report.

“It wasn’t something that he just woke up the next day and felt fine. So we still have some more days before we play, but unable to shoot around or anything today.”

Brazile leads the Razorbacks with 7.8 rebounds per game and 17 blocked shots, and is third with 11.3 points per game. He is shooting 50.7% from the field (33 of 65) and 46% from three-point range (14 of 30), the best among Razorbacks with at least five threepoint tries.

The Razorbacks (6-3) take on the Sooners (8-0) at 3 p.m. at Saturday at the BOK Center. The teams have split the first two meetings of the Crimson and Cardinal Classic, with Arkansas winning 88-78 last Dec. 10 and the Sooners taking an 88-66 decision on Dec. 11, 2021.
