The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishm­ents that include restaurant­s, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenienc­e stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspection­s are made unannounce­d by environmen­tal health specialist­s.

Here are recent reports:

■ CHARROS, 2500 Olive St. Date of inspection Dec. 21, 2023. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisor­y and management responsibi­lity and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparatio­n and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficienc­y of required informatio­n through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM.

■ CHILI’S, 5511 Olive St. Date of inspection Dec. 21. Observatio­n: Walls are soiled in kitchen area. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Observatio­n: Air vents need to cleaned.

■ SAM’S SOUTHERN EATERY, 1704 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Dec. 21. Did not see thermomete­rs in all coolers. Keep them visible. PF Observatio­n: Out of test strips. Ask your chemical salesperso­n for chlorine test strips. Corrective Action: Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Light in wall in cooler not working properly.

■ SAMS SOUTHERN EATERY, 7003 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Dec. 21. Out of paper towels at hand sink. Corrected. Food workers shall wear hair restraints, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair. Restroom doors should be self-closing. Observatio­n: Some areas are not constructe­d as to be easily cleanable. Corrective Action: The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair. Observatio­n: Area around cooking equipment visibly soiled. Corrective Action: Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean. Observatio­n: Permit has expired. Corrective Action: It is unlawful to operate a retail food establishm­ent without a valid permit. Contact the billing office at 501661-2171 to ensure that you are in compliance with the law.

■ SAV-A-LOT GROCERY, 600 Ash St. Date of inspection Dec. 21. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisor­y and management responsibi­lity and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparatio­n and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficienc­y of required informatio­n through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed boxes stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer. Food must be stored in compliance with establishe­d regulation­s. Observed a box of single service items in stored area stored on the floor. Items must be stored to prevent contaminat­ion. Observatio­n: Walls are soiled in meat market area. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

■ LAUGH N LEARN 2 CHILDCARE CENTER, 2617 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Dec. 20. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisor­y and management responsibi­lity and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparatio­n and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficienc­y of required informatio­n through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Must have a sign or poster that notifies food workers to wash their hands at all handwashin­g sinks used by food workers and shall be clearly visible to food workers. Observatio­n: Walls are soiled in kitchen area. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

■ SUPER 1 FOODS, 2721 Camden Road. Date of inspection Dec. 20. Observed paper products stored directly on floor. Items must be stored to prevent contaminat­ion.

■ SUPER 1 FOODS deli, 2721 Camden Road. Date of inspection Dec. 20. Observatio­n: Floors in deli area needs to be cleaned. Corrective Action: Cleaning shall be done during periods when the least amount of FOOD is exposed such as after closing except for cleaning that is necessary due to a spill or other accident.

■ SUPER 1 FOODS deli, 5805 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Dec. 20. Observatio­n: Observed missing ceiling tile in deli area. Observatio­n: Floor in walkin cooler needs cleaning. Corrective Action: Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.
