80, residing in Little Rock, Ark., passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024. Susan, born on November 29, 1943, grew up in Waxahachie, Texas. She attended the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. At the age of 20, she married her husband of 60 years, Robert Dean Smith III, and had three children.

Susan loved to read and write as a hobby, but also to volunteer for her community. Her many accomplish­ments included serving as editor of the Junior League of Little Rock’s, “Newsheet,” and writing personal correspond­ence for President Bill Clinton during his campaign. She also authored a publicatio­n for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families about the prevention of violence. Susan was an artist who specialize­d in mixed media. She also loved to travel to her favorite places, which include Key West, Fla., and Monterey, Calif. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Jennifer Paige Cox, and Richard Cosmus Smith (Jessie); grandchild­ren, Ivy Cox, Judd Cox, Scarlett Smith, and Vivian Smith; great-grandchild, Jayce Cox Milian; nieces and nephews, Jay Winborn (Jennifer), Reid Smith, Amy Smith, Ashley Smith, Parker Smith, and Natalie Smith; and brother-in-law, Richard H. Smith (Nancy).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cosmus; son, Robert D. Smith IV; sister, Cynthia Winborn; and brother-in-law, Vann Smith (Cathy).

A visitation will be held, at Ruebel Funeral Home, from 5-7 p.m., Monday January 8. The ceremony will take place at Ruebel Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
