EAST FALMOUTH, Mass. — Dr. John M. Tudor, Jr.,

of East Falmouth, passed away at age 85, on December 19, 2023, in Falmouth, Mass., with family present, following a long struggle with Parkinson’s.

Born in Pine Bluff, Ark., in 1938, he attended Hendrix College in Arkansas, and married his college sweetheart, Dodie Blair, in June 1961. John graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1964, and proceeded to extend his profession­al journey in Seattle, Wash., Albuquerqu­e, M.M., Miami, Fla. and Little Rock, Ark., at the University of Arkansas, where he developed the family medicine department. He attained master’s graduate degree in medical education at Michigan State University and continued his academic teaching at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he served as division chief of Family Medicine. He joined a private practice in Salt Lake City, and then worked as medical director for Cigna Insurance for the state of Utah. Following recognitio­n as Utah Physician of the year, he was president for the Utah Academy of Family Physicians. He was elected president of the national organizati­on, American Academy of Family Physicians, AAFP, in 1992. Following retirement in 2001, John enjoyed more time with his passions for music, chorus, and the outdoors, seeing National parks as well as internatio­nal travel. He greatly enjoyed living near family on Cape Cod, Mass., and continued volunteer work which he supported all his life. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Dodie Tudor. He also leaves his children, son, Gregory S. Tudor, and his wife, Kate White, of Olympia, Wash., and daughter, Stephanie M. Tudor, and her husband, Konrad Hughen, of Falmouth, Mass. He also leaves his sister, Carol Stanfield, of Wyoming, and six grandchild­ren: Erin, Megan, Owen, and Colin Tudor, and Kaylyn and Alanna Hughen. He was predecease­d by his parents, Johnny and Winnie Tudor; and sister, Jane Bowie. Burial will be private, and celebratio­n of life will be announced at later date.
