SUN BELT MEN ARKANSAS STATE 90, OLD DOMINION 75

Arkansas State picked up its second consecutiv­e home victory Saturday afternoon with a triumph over Old Dominion at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

Dyondre Dominguez continued his strong play as of late, recording a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Red Wolves. Avery Felts knocked down 5 of 9 shots from three-point range and finished with 15 points.

Arkansas State (6-9, 2-1 Sun Belt) shot 46.2% from three-point range, converting on 18 of 39 attempts as a team. Along with Felts, Dominguez, Caleb Fields and Julian Lual all made multiple shots from deep.

Fields and Derrian Ford each scored 13 points for the Red Wolves in the win, while Izaiyah Nelson just missed a double-double of his own, finishing the game with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Old Dominion (4-11, 0-3) got a big performanc­e from Vasean Allette, who led all scorers with 28 points. Allette shot 12 of 26 from the field and collected seven rebounds as well. Chaunce Jenkins also had a big scoring night for the Monarchs, finishing with 27 points in the loss.

SWAC MEN ALABAMA A&M 63, UAPB 62

Omari Peek’s go-ahead layup with 1:09 left in the second half helped Alabama A&M escape H.O. Clemmons Arena with a win in Pine Bluff.

Peek finished with 21 points for the Bulldogs, who went ahead 60-59 on his bucket. Lorenzo Downey later gave Alabama A&M (2-12, 1-0 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) a 63-59 cushion with 30 seconds left, but Lonnell Martin drilled a three-pointer 11 seconds later to cut the deficit to one for UAPB (5-9, 0-1). The Golden Lions had a chance to win the game, but Ismael Plet’s shot rolled out with five seconds showing.

Alabama A&M was able to hold on from there.

Martin had 20 points and Plet followed with 15 points and seven rebounds for UAPB. Kylen Milton also chipped in with 12 points, 4 steals and 4 assists for the Golden Lions, who were obliterate­d on the boards 44-22 and went just 7 of 28 (25%) from beyond the three-point line.

OHIO VALLEY WOMEN UALR 53, EASTERN ILLINOIS 49

Faith Lee poured in a career-high 25 points as Arkansas-Little Rock survived a late rally Saturday afternoon to win its second consecutiv­e game, knocking off Eastern Illinois at the Jack Stephens Center.

Lee shot 11 of 25 from the field and collected six rebounds. She also led the Trojans defensivel­y, picking up four steals as UALR (4-11, 3-1 Ohio Valley) held Eastern Illinois to 37% shooting.

Jaiyah Harris-Smith scored eight points, pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out four assists from her point guard position. Leilani Wimbish-Gay also added eight points for the Trojans.

Eastern Illinois (5-11, 2-1) was led by forward Mary McGlone, who produced 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field and 16 rebounds. McGlone was also fouled seven times and converted on 6 of 8 attempts from the free-throw line.

Ellie Buzzelle knocked down 3 three-pointers and finished with nine points, while Miah Monahan added eight points for the Panthers.

SUN BELT WOMEN MARSHALL 68, ARKANSAS STATE 51

Arkansas State lost its second consecutiv­e road game Saturday afternoon as it fell to to Marshall at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va.

Aislynn Hayes scored 15 points and collected five rebounds in the win for Marshall (9-5, 3-0 Sun Belt). Abby Beeman shot 3 of 6 from three-point range and finished with 13 points, while Breanna Campbell and Sydni Scott each added nine points apiece for the Thundering Herd.

Arkansas State (7-6, 1-2) leading scorer Izzy Higginbott­om was held below her 22.4 points per game average, scoring 15 on 6 of 14 shooting from the field. Cheyenne Forney scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Red Wolves, while Lauryn Pendleton scored seven points and collected eight rebounds in the loss.

ASU shot poorly from three-point range, making just 3 of 13 shots from behind the arc. The Marshall defense held the Red Wolves to their second lowest scoring output of the season and forced them into 20 turnovers.

ASUN WOMEN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 83, NORTH ALABAMA 62

The University of Central Arkansas opened ASUN play Saturday night with a win over North Alabama thanks to a dominant second-half outing at CB&S Arena in Florence, Ala.

The Sugar Bears (9-5, 1-0) entered halftime with a 39-33 lead. They outscored the Lions (4-10, 0-1) 24-19 in the third quarter and 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Kinley Fisher had 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting with 4 three-pointers in the second half. The Sugar Bears shot 57.1% from the field after the halftime break, compared to the Lions’ 30.3%.

Five UCA players scored in double figures, led by Fisher’s 24 points. Randrea Wright scored 16 points, followed by Destine Duckworth and Jade Upshaw with 13 points each and Kierra Prim’s 11. Upshaw recorded her first double-double this season with 10 rebounds.

Despite both teams turning the ball over 16 times, UCA outscored North Alabama 21-8 on points off turnovers.

SWAC WOMEN UAPB 75, ALABAMA A&M 67

Coriah Beck finished with 16 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff kicked off the league portion of its schedule with a victory at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Zaay Green added 15 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds for UAPB (6-8, 1-0 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), which used a stifling defensive effort in the third quarter to break free from a 3232 halftime tie. Jelissa Reese also had 15 points for the Golden Lions.

UAPB held Alabama A&M (5-8, 0-1) to 5-of-17 shooting (29.4%) in the third and outscored the Bulldogs 23-15. The Golden Lions forced 25 turnovers in the game as well and shot 25 of 54 (46.3%).

Kaylah Turner led Alabama A&M with 16 points and eight assists. Alisha Wilson scored 14 points, and Amiah Simmons and Kailyn Nash finished with 11 points apiece for the Bulldogs, who were 26 of 62 (41.9%) from the floor.
