GARY LYNN HALL, age 68,

-

of Roland, died at home peacefully January 20, 2024 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Hall; brother, Denis Hall; and wife, Tammy Lock Hall. He is survived by his second wife, Meredith; his son, Hunter Hall (Lindsey); two grandchildren— Miles and Lennox; his mother, Virginia Hall; brother-in-law, Bo Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews. Gary was born and raised in Little Rock and attended Hall High. He began dating his future wife, Tammy, when they were both teenagers. Their marriage was a true partnership as they worked together at the family business, Tru-Fab—a sheet metal fabrication business—and in raising their son, Hunter. As a family they loved traveling to the beach and skiing out west. They were married for 37 years before

Tammy’s death in 2014. Gary was lucky to later find love a second time with Meredith Hawkins. The two self-professed bird nerds spent their time together in nature, living in a log cabin overlooking Lake Maumelle and Pinnacle Mountain; caring for their cats, dog, chickens, and gardens; and traveling out west to Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming whenever they could get away. Gary loved the outdoors. He loved scuba diving and fly fishing for bonefish in the Cayman Islands, the Florida Keys, and Turks & Caicos. But his favorite fly fishing of all was for striped bass (stripers!) on Lake Ouachita. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Gary was an inventor and craftsperson. He loved the challenge of fabricating parts for use in various industries throughout the world and in later life was a self taught blacksmith/forger, who made incredible knives and other utilitarian objects. Lucky is the person who was gifted one of Gary’s beautiful knives. He was also an international champion wildfowl wood carver, who made wonderful lifelike, life-sized figures of owls and other wild birds. He was a true artisan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great nieces, playing games with the younger ones and visiting with his grandson, Miles. A visitation will be held 4-6 p.m., on Wednesday, January 31 with a funeral service the following day, February 1 at 2 p.m. Both are at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham, in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arkansas Hospice, or Little Rock Animal Village.
