SWAC WOMEN UAPB 74, SOUTHERN 59

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff scored 24 points off 20 turnovers and got a near-perfect outing from Kalia Walker to pick up a road win at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.

Walker went 5 of 5 from the field and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line to finish with 21 points for UAPB (9-10, 4-2 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), which shot 51.2% (22 of 43) from the floor and hit 93.1% (27 of 29) of its free throws. The Golden Lions also got 13 points from Coriah Beck and 10 points from reigning conference player of the week Zaay Green before she fouled out.

Chloe Fleming had 12 points and Aleighyah Fontenot scored 11 points for Southern (5-12, 3-3). The Jaguars trailed 40-22 at halftime and were not able to make up much ground in the second half. Southern was also 15 of 41 (36.6%) from the field.

SUN BELT WOMEN TROY 91, ARKANSAS STATE 84, OT

Trailing by seven heading into the fourth quarter, Arkansas State rallied to force overtime before ultimately falling to Troy on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.

Camden native Tai’Sheka Porchia scored a season-high 35 points on 15-of-27 shooting from the field and had nine rebounds to lead Troy (11-8, 8-1 Sun Belt Conference). Makayia Hallmon hit four three-pointers and finished with 23 points. Ja’Mia Hollings added 15 points.

Arkansas State (10-9, 4-5) was paced by Izzy Higginbott­om, who reached the 30-point plateau for the fifth time this season, finishing with 34 points and eight assists. Anna Griffin scored 16 points for the Red Wolves, while Lauryn Pendelton added nine points.

SWAC MEN SOUTHERN 80, UAPB 66

Tai’Reon Joseph scored 21 points to lead a second-half surge for Southern as it beat the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.

Derrick Tezeno finished with 17 points and Jariyon Wilkens had 13 points for the Jaguars, who held a 36-33 lead at halftime and led 43-40 with just under 15 minutes left in the game. But Southern (10-9, 4-2 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) went on a 12-5 run to build a double-digit lead

UAPB (8-11, 3-3) got the deficit down to 61-53 with 6:44 remaining after a pair of free throws Kylen Milton. But Jalen Reynolds scored off a layup on the next possession to start a 15-0 spurt for Southern that allowed it to comfortabl­y pull away.

Milton ended with 20 points and Rashad Williams had 15 points for the Golden Lions. Lonnell Martin Jr. also scored 11 points.
