SEARK triumphs with doublehead­er sweep

Southeast Arkansas College found its way back on the winning path Wednesday after a baseball doublehead­er sweep of the Lyon College junior varsity in Batesville.

Cameron Gonzalez went 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored and helped SEARK collect 12 hits in a 6-3, Game 1 win over the Scots. The Sharks pulled off the sweep with a 13-7 win in Game 2.

The wins are the Sharks’ fifth and sixth in their last eight games. They improved to 6-9 on the season.

Logan Deloach, Wyatt Darby and Gonzalez each hit a double in the 7-inning, Game 1 win, while Deloach also tripled. Deloach was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Four SEARK pitchers were used, with Gary Baker earning the win following 2 innings of 1-hit ball with an earned run scored on him. Baker struck out 3 batters.

Jacob Masters and Erik Heiken combined for 3 hitless innings. Masters struck out 4.

Diego Garcia threw 2 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits, fanning a batter.

SEARK started Game 2 strong with 4 runs each in the first and second innings. The Sharks led 9-1 before the Scots stormed back with 6 runs in the fourth, but SEARK finished with 4 runs in the seventh.

Darby batted 2 for 4 (both doubles), driving in 3 runs. Heiken, Gonzalez and Garcia each hit a triple.

J.T. Grace earned the win after giving up an earned run on 2 hits in 2 innings.

SEARK will host back-toback doublehead­ers against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa starting at 1 p.m. today. Saturday’s pair will begin at 1 p.m. as well.

SEARK’s softball team (4-9) will return to action Saturday with a doublehead­er against Bossier Parish Community College starting at 1 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Torii Hunter Complex.
